Fantastic story

I did not read this until after I had seen the movie, so I had the visuals playing in my head as I read, down to Newt's awkward lovability and Jacob's wonder. Even without seeing the movie first, though, this screenplay gives you enough story to be able to appreciate the dangers of this new Wizarding world.

Amazing!

This plan is by far the healthiest, most effective way to lose weight out there. I've been following this plan--with the occasional addition of pasta/bread when the need arose--with incredible results. I've lost 45 lbs within 4 months, and I look/feel better than ever! But the weight loss isn't the only thing I've gained; I've also gained a greater knowledge of the health benefits of veganism. There's evidence out there that indicates that a plant-based low-fat diet--such as this one--may reduce the effects of aging, reverse and prevent heart disease, prevent cancer, and cure a host of other maladies. Thanks to Dr. McDougall, I can look forward to a long, healthy, happy life! The benefits can be seen right here and right now too: I have more energy than ever, and I'm getting several second glances from all of the cute guys around here ;)
My word of advice to those considering this plan is this: just give it a shot. Give it, say, 3 weeks. If at the end of 3 weeks you don't like it, then quit. If you do like it, then continue with it and enjoy the amazing benefits of following this program! You have nothing to lose.
If you're intimidated by those that say you need meat or dairy in your diet to be healthy...don't be. Several civilizations throughout history have followed this low-fat vegetarian diet throughout the ages out of necessity. The peoples of Asia and Africa, plus the millions of the working class in the olden days, ate a diet similar to this one and experienced none of the health problems that we do today. And that's better proof of the healthfulness of this diet than any laboratory can provide!

This is a great, ground-breaking book!

Being an overweight woman in her 40s, I have lots of experience with trying and failing to lose fat, and with the misery entailed in the process. Dr. McDougall's book has the first system I have found that I really feel I can happily follow, not just to lose weight, but for the rest of my life in order to stay healthy and maintain my weight loss. At first I was startled by what Dr. McDougall had to say about nutrition, but I have found in practice that his claims are correct. My energy level took a big leap forward within two days, and I just keep feeling better all the time. In my experience, losing weight with this system is unbelievably easy and painless, and your food can be as simple or as gourmet as you want to make it. In the past I tried the Atkinson high protein diet (the most opposite one to this!), and even if I did temporarily lose some weight, I couldn't wait to get off that diet and start eating real food again, and I felt very unhealthy on it after a few weeks. On the other hand, I find the McDougall diet to be extremely satisfying, and as a bonus my skin and hair (dried out by the Nevada climate for years now) have become healthy again, and I have more energy and vitality than in years. Also important is that following the McDougall diet ensures that you minimize the toxicities you get from your food (see Howard Lyman's book "Mad Cowboy" for further information on that aspect!). It really feels good to improve your health, do what is right ecologically, and even lose weight as a bonus and keep it off! Everyone should do themselves the favor of reading and trying for themselves this or another of Dr. McDougall's books.

Good reference, but very strict.

In this book, McDougall delineates and refines his basic program to help increase weight loss. His books generally deal with heart disease reversal through diet. For both heart disease treatment and weight loss, this book is a good reference ONLY if you are able to stick to your committment to it. It has very clear guidelines that DO work if followed correctly.
Vegans will appreciate the all-vegan approach. Lacto-Ovo vegetarians who are not ready to go vegan may appreciate Dean Ornish's work more -- similar concepts to treating heart disease and obesity through controlled diet, but his program allows dairy and egg products where McDougall does not. People who are accustomed to eating meat will find neither Ornish nor McDougall's programs encouraging it as a food choice. It will NOT fit in with these programs, and if you are not willing to forgo meat you may find difficulty sticking to the diet. It has to be a lifestyle change, something you are willing to do forever to treat and control your heart disease/obesity.
The book contains menu plans and recipes along with the basic guidelines for the program. I find the recipes ok, but not fabulous because they lean heavily toward the "southwest" or "tex-mex" type food. They are easy to make, I just happen to not be a fan of tex-mex type food! Instead I bought the book as a reference and found other vegan cookbooks that suited my tastebuds better.
People who like to cook will find this no problem. People who are used to eating frozen entrees or eating out all the time may find difficulty learning how to cook and manage their time to be able to prepare their own meals. The book does give tips on how to best eat out in restaurants and still stick to the program, but overall, expect to have to at least cook a little. A lifestyle change does imply changing some habits.
Whether or not you like the book or find it useful will largely depend on how clearly you have your goals in mind and how far you are willing to change to achieve them.
I gave it 4 stars because while I liked it and it works for me, I can see where it will not work for my non-vegetarian spouse and may cause him frustration. He is simply not ready to go that extra mile at this time and give up meat.

Weak sauce. It reads like a transcript from a rip off JM&A training session. It has plenty of grammatical errors and very little organization. I called him to ask for more clarification and the "bro" kept desking me to buy more product.

Dr. Michael Banas completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Scranton. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine followed by an Orthopedic Residency at the University of Rochester. His final year of surgical training took him to Los Angeles where he completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute. Dr. Banas currently resides in Dallas, PA with his wife and six children. He specializes in Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine.

Interesting medical drama

I downloaded this book because I know the author. Many years ago, he was a talented basketball player at the high school where I was employed as a new teacher. Michael went on to become an orthopedic surgeon and a father to six children. I am currently teaching his youngest daughter (at the same high school.) When I heard he wrote a book, being an avid reader, I was excited to read it.
I am certainly in awe of anyone who would have the ideas, determination to write a full length novel!
I thought the story started out a bit slowly. It is a mystery and the "mysterious" parts didn't begin until about 25% into the book. However, the descriptions of the life of an intern and resident in the fictitious Philadelphia hospital were interesting and well-written. When patients of a renowned surgeon start mysteriously dying the story began to unfold. You were really kept guessing until the end. My only small problem with the novel was the development of the character, Jenna. The first half she was depicted as the younger mistress of the much older, married surgeon. She was breathtakingly beautiful and of course the protagonist, Dr. Phil Drummer, a first year intern, was attracted to her. When she becomes Phil's girlfriend, ending her relationship with the surgeon, she seems different, nicer, I guess. As a woman who lives with a married man, taking advantage of his wealth and position, she wasn't someone I would like or respect. But later on she seems like a wonderful, caring person.
Finally, I really appreciated the descriptions of the car accident because my niece had recently suffered almost the same trauma in an auto accident. All of Dr. Banas's descriptions were easy to understand, but detailed enough to give extra information to the reader.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys medical mysteries and I congratulate Dr. Banas on his writing it. I hope he continues to write in the future.

Getting to the top is hard. Staying there even harder...

Great read. Suspense, intrigue, romance with vivid and dramatic insights into the intense training and demanding schedule of a medical intern.

I enjoyed the tyrannical Dr Knight. I'd choose a competent, obsessed doctor any day over one who is simply nice. LOL... You don't enter the doctor's office seeking friends.

I thought the ending could be more convincing but I gave the book five stars because it was a compelling story and a reader can learn a lot from this book - without even trying. I recommend.

A play that still deals with issues in today's society

Though this book is almost 20 years old, there is still plenty of content within the book that modern-day teenagers and others can relate to. This is a play about various teenagers from different backgrounds and why they are in Juvenile Hall. The types of characters range from a metnally challenged young boy to gangster kids from the streets. The one thing that sticks out most in my mind is how guilty and sincerely remorseful some of the characters are and others appear to have no heart at all. This is a play with simple blocking and can be done either very simply or as complicated as a technical director wishes to make it. The issues this play deals with makes it an appropriate play that every highschool could and should do.

About the Author
J. Phillip Ellenberger, P.E., is Vice President of Engineering at WFI International, Inc., Houston, Texas, a design and manufacturing firm specializing in machined branch connections; and a life member of ASME, for which he serves on several codes and standards committees. Mr. Ellenberger is active with the B16 F & C subcommittees, the B31.3 design task group, and the B31 mechanical design and fabrication committee. He is also the MSS Chairman of the Coordinating Committee and Committee 113, and is member of WG 10 SC67. He has taught piping stress analysis at the University of Houston, and numerous professional seminars on B31.3 and related topics.

Pressure Vessels Simplified

This is an easy to use reference that allows a non technical person to deduce what ASME's code is there for and how it's used. ASME's Pressure Vessel Code is highly complex, huge, and if anything overly technical, with references pointing to other referenced callouts making one's search a back and forth elimination for overall understanding. This book breaks down the sections of the code into understandable abstracts that have mostly meat and leave the out the non essentials. I recommed it as a good reference book to those who need to get information quickly on pressure vessel compliance without having a code breaker and Phd in mechanical
mechanical engineering at your side.

Francisco de Zurbarán was a Spanish painter, known mainly for his religious paintings depicting monks, nuns, and martyrs, and for his stilllifes. Zurbarán gained the nickname "Spanish Caravaggio", owing to the forceful, realistic use of chiaroscuro in which he excelled. He painted directly from nature, and made great use of the lay-figure in the study of draperies, in which Zurbarán was particularly expert. His subjects were mostly severe and ascetic religious vigils, the spirit chastising the flesh into subjection, the compositions often reduced to a single figure. The style is more reserved and chastened than Caravaggio's, the tone of color often quite bluish. Exceptional effects are attained by the precisely finished foregrounds, massed out largely in light and shade. Towards 1630 he was appointed painter to Philip IV, and there is a story that on one occasion the sovereign laid his hand on the artist's shoulder, saying "Painter to the king, king of painters."
