Great tips but outdated plans

This is a great book for anyone interested in learning how to make kites. The only downside to the book is that the stunt kite plans are very dated. Since this book was published in 1996, dual line stunt kites have progressed in aerodynamic design and materials. There are plans for kites on the internet that utilize these new sail shapes and framesets that (in my opinion) would allow a person to make a kite that would provide a more enjoyable flying experience.

I think this book is great for people who are interested in stunt kites. It is very detailed and has accurate pictures. This book has pretty good tips. It lists one liners and different gadgets that are perfect for the beach.

Of all the Vogue books, this one reveals the magazine at its most creative. Poznick's vison is original. The collection of photos here are the ones that I plucked from the pages of Vogue and plastered over my desk for inspiration. Color saturated shots and use of of negative space....completely new. Dazzling, diabolical, and wildly romantic viewpoint. And I will always love "Football Face"!

About the Author
Robert Thier is a German Historian and writer of Historical Fiction. His particular mix of history, romance and adventure, always with a good deal of humor thrown in, has gained him a diverse readership ranging from teenagers to retired grandmothers. For the way he manages to make history come alive, as if he himself had lived as a medieval knight, his fans all over the world have given him the nickname “Sir Rob”. For him, Robert says, becoming a writer has followed naturally from his interest in history. “In Germany,” he says, “we use the same word for story and history. And I've always loved the one as much as the other. Becoming a storyteller, a writer, is what I've always wanted.” Besides writing and researching in dusty old archives, on the lookout for a mystery to put into his next story, Robert enjoys classical music and long walks in the country. The helmet you see on the picture he does not wear because he is a cycling enthusiast, but to protect his literary skull in which a bone has been missing from birth. Robert lives in the south of Germany in a small village between the three Emperor's Mountains.

Easy, comical read for a lazy afternoon.

I do like the book. It is quite hilarious and fun to read but one thing that really bothered me were the dialogues. There are just a little too modern to make me convinced that we're really in Victorian era England.

As for the plot, I think it took a while to get to the actual adventure. I think this is due to the fact that the book was originally published through Radish in episodic format so the author had the incentive to put cliffhangers at the end of each chapter to keep the readers engaged for the next chapter release. It works when published in this fashion but once this is an individual book, the plot unfortunately drags. I've skipped through quite a few parts of the book because it just wasn't important - and you don't miss much.

I do love the characters - Lily is hilarious but her insistence in getting her way all the time can get quite annoying - but I suppose that's part of the point and the relationship dynamic between her and her boss. I'm also put off with her rather shallow definition of feminism (I'm a feminist! I can't like men!). It's great that she's not a damsel in distress and can sort of (emphasis on sort of) get herself out of sticky situations but it bothers me that she still actually needs men to REALLY get her out of sticky situations. It's almost like the author wants to appeal to the female readers by putting in a "strong" female lead, but then falls short right at the end.

Finally, I feel that the author could have delved a bit deeper on all the social issues it touched on and explore some of the political/economic/social situation the story's set in. Some of the "historical" insights within the story barely scratches the surface and I feel could be interlaced into the story a lot more. Possibly this is also the reason why I just don't feel convinced that I'm in Victorian-era England. I really don't feel like I have been transported back in time. The historical tidbits within the book are thrown in almost as a trivia rather than front and centre of the story.

Yes, the main entertainment is the banter between the 2 characters - but perhaps there's too much emphasis on it. It will be a more well-rounded book if the historical setting is fully immersed as part of the story and more depth in the political/economical aspects that drives the main adventure.

Stop reading the reviews and start this book already,its that good. This book has everything from adventure, strong well developed characters, romance, suspense, mystery, and history. Meet Lily who wants her Independence, so she dresses like a man to earn money. Ambrose is the Boss, ultimate alpha who is mysterious and icy but shows some care for Lily. Read on to see how these two strong characters clash together in an adventure to find the missing file.

This is the most beautiful and perfect coloring book for adults I have come across. The pages are thick and printed on wonderful card stock paper that is great for copic or spectrum Noir markers. The illustrations are breathtaking and absolutely gorgeous. I cant get enough of this book and only wish they had more like it. I would buy them all. I own many coloring books, but I only want to color in this one.

Stunning and Intricate...

Summary:
"Floribunda" contains 20 pages of illustrations and an introductory page. It measures 10 by 13 inches and is glue bound into a colorable matte finish cover- the insides of which are illustrated with colored images of flowers. Featuring black and white botanical illustrations, this book is appropriate for adult colorists on all skill levels.

Paper:
The paper in this book is a very heavy cream colored cardstock. Pages are single sided and non-perforated. All mediums are okay to use, but be sure to place several sheets of blotter paper under your current picture to prevent possible color bleedthrough.

Artwork:
As the title implies, "Floribunda" focuses on plants and flowers. The majority of the artwork is set up in blocks and circles with heavy black areas in the background. Inside you'll see lillies, poppies, dahlias, daisies, hydrangeas, roses, and more. There is a short description on the bottom of each page listing both the common and scientific names of the flowers included in the picture. Line weight is quite delicate and the detail level is very high. All of the artwork does end before entering the binding, so the pages will be easy to pull out and frame. Picture completion time should range from 5-11 hours(may vary slightly for each individual). Overall, this is a stunning book of botanical art. It would be best suited for colorists who enjoy intricate imagery with a vintage feel.

The colored picture I attached was done with Staedtler, Prismacolor, and Faber Castell pencils. They blended nicely and the color laid down well.

Extraordinarily beautiful book

I've been coloring for awhile. This is the first book is somewhat overwhelming. It is a gorgeous book, extremely well done and a provides a challenge on every page which is appreciated by experienced colorists. So many adult coloring books are a mix of too easy or pictures that do not interest me. This inside front and back covers describe some flowers already colored to be used as a guide but as I read through each page, I noticed that not all the illustrations are included in the examples. Because I want to do this beautiful book justice, I have been researching every flower before I put my Faber Castell pencils to the task. I just finished one page and it is pretty spectacular. If you're looking for a book that provides beauty, challenge and pictures that, once colored, will make beautifully framed gifts, then this book is for you. It is awesome!
