Rubin’s account of returning from the medical abyss, however, includes an original twist. After several years of battling Crohn’s Disease, which included a small fortune spent on both conventional and alternative treatments, as well as trips abroad in search of help, Rubin weighed only 111 pounds and, at just age 21, thought his life was over. At the urging of his father, a naturopath, he contacted an obscure nutritionist in California promoting a diet based on the teachings of the Bible. Yes, we’re talking what Jesus ate: kefir, lamb, sprouted breads, eggs and meat from free-range chickens, and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Rubin also started to pray and added a new powder supplement containing homeostatic soil organisms (HSOs) to his diet. Four months later he weighed 170 lbs and was on the road back to his former athletic and healthy self. Inspired by his experience, and now with advanced degrees in nutrition and naturopathic medicine, Rubin has crafted The Maker’s Diet. After nutritional consultant Rubin (Patient Heal Thyself; etc.) nearly died from an inflammatory bowel disease that caused him to lose 50 pounds and suffer severe pains, he devised an approach to health that combines wholesome eating with a heavy dose of faith. Indeed, while Rubin presents scientific evidence of his plan's effectiveness and detailed lists of recommended supplements and foods, the diet's religious aspect is fundamental. The 28-year-old Rubin bases his diet on a "Biblically-correct lifestyle," recommending the consumption of organically grown foods and frequently referring to the Bible on matters ranging from personal hygiene ("If the Maker has a preference, it might be the use of ritual bathing that combined bathing... with sprinkling") to getting tattoos ("Scripture warns against piercing the skin"). To help readers avoid disease and live healthily, Rubin lays out a three-stage plan. The first stage-somewhat restrictive, akin to South Beach-prohibits virtually all commercial dairy products, chlorinated tap water, many fats and oils, and all carbohydrates ("While it is true that the people of the Bible consumed a diet that contained liberal amounts of... carbohydrate foods, they were higher-quality, lesser-processed carbohydrates, therefore much easier to digest"). More foods are introduced in subsequent weeks, and those following the diet may eventually incorporate red meat, carbs and saturated fats into their regimens. Rubin's program will be difficult for many, as it calls for drastic changes in the way they go about their lives. However, his approach is unique and provides a refreshing, holistic antidote to many of today's fad diets.

God knew what He was doing when He created food!

I have really enjoyed it, I have learned so much...coming from a gym background I have always eaten and exercised with a focus on aesthetics and have done more harm than good to my health. Now refocusing my eyes off the outer appearance and back to how God created food for every aspect being geared towards health and well-being, it's been amazing! Great book, very informative!

About the Author
Joan L. Brown is Elias Ahuja Chair of Spanish at the University of Delaware. She teaches at the intermediate through graduate levels with courses on Spanish conversation, Hispanic literature by women, and contemporary Spanish literature and culture. Professor Brown's research interests include second-language acquisition, literary canon formation, and the contemporary Spanish novel.

Carmen Martin Gaite is one of the most honored writers of contemporary Spain and the only author who has won Spain's National Prize for Literature twice. Her best-known novel is the fantastic memoir El cuarto de atrás (The Back Room). She earned a doctorate in language and literature from the University of Madrid and has published award-winning nonfiction. She has also authored stories, poems, plays, screenplays, and mini-dramas for learning Spanish, which she named conversaciones creadoras.

Most Practical Conversational Vocabulary Textbook Ever

I rented this textbook for a college level Spanish course, but then decided to purchase my own copy to have on hand. I know, I'm kind of a nerd for this kind of thing… This textbook has a wealth of useful, everyday vocabulary, unlike some other curriculums. You will actually use the things you learn in this book when speaking Spanish in any conversational setting. I bought a used copy, as it's just for personal use, and it was a fantastic price, in the ballpark of $17. The only reason I was hesitant to give it five stars is that when I ordered the used copy, it was supposed to be in good condition, and it was written in on almost every activity page. Even with that, it was an unbelievable price for such a huge amount of helpful information and practice. As a book in general, it deserves more than five stars. If you don't mind your book being a little less than perfect in appearance, buy used. It is well worth it.

Mastering Spanish Conversation

Mastering Spanish Conversation is the subtitle of this book. While it has been a decent accompaniment for my Conversational Spanish class, it doesn't have the ability to help you master spanish conversation. Even though it claims such a feat, you will certainly have to do a lot more work than the examples in this book to achieve goals of fluency.

The above explanation is my only problem with this book. Other than that, it provides a vast amount of vocabulary. It also goes over basic grammar, in case you need a reminder. The readings are very helpful and start out very simple to progress to more difficult passages later on. Over all, I am happy with my professor's choice of this text and think that it will help me out a lot when it comes to reading/writing spanish.

This was a required textbook for a spanish conversation course I took in college. It was very helpful, the chapters were short but allowed for much discussion (which is great in a conversation class).

Valuable Life Lessons

Wayne Cordeiro is a man I am honored to know as a friend. I have been to New Hope Christian Fellowship in Oahu, sat under Wayne's training for pastors and seen him lead people well. His ability to take biblical treasure and mine out the life changing nuggets is simply amazing. This book is great for personal study, small groups, bible studies or pastoral material for a great teaching series. I loved the book and I love Wayne Cordeiro.

This is a great book for understanding how to live a Godly life. Dr. Cordeiro does a fantastic job writing on a level that I can understand and defiantly relate to. My small group chose this to study together and we thoroughly enjoyed the book. I would recommend this book to read independently or in a group setting.

Countdown begins...10,9,8,7,6....Ready to lift off. Apollo 11 landed on his moon! I feel like Giane just became the biblical character Samson who got weakened when his hair got chop off. And Valenna the most powerful nymph took over him.
I'm so humongously amuse by the pair and giddy, I could burst in tears laughing. The chemistry is unbelievably craving you for more.

"I'm so busted now." For a few seconds he just stared at her, thinking he heard her wrong.
She grinned at him impishly. "I'm so deliciously stuffed with an Italian special I can burp with it."

You can never, I mean NEVER fail to love you more Ms Eve Montelibano! Should I say I can't wait for the book 3? Hell yea. I'm expecting a lenghty ending and more Apollo 11 pleazzzee!

So the Pop Diva Valenna Jones is a virgin no more... thanks to Gianfranco Zoldatti and his staggering bid of 50 million dollars! That part was crazily combustible and hilarious..but more than the hilarity, there were some serious issues that ive noticed. Valenna and Giane's insecurities started to enter into the picture, there were also alien feelings which they didn't want to recognize...and these things just made me giddy. Im starting to smell a sweet yet wild love affair that'll bloom! I wonder how Ms. author will have to twist and turn, bend and twhirl the story towards a happily ever after. I cant wait to read the succeeding volumes.
I must say the steamy parts were clearly expressed. EXPLICIT. I love the witty lines even in the throes of passion! Volume 3 Puleeeezzzzz!!
